Email Marketing Deep Dive
Friend's Points: 3
The ONE email I ALWAYS send after someone opts-in...
The "Hey" Email

This is so simple and powerful that I dare you to implement it right now.

It takes less than 5 min to write and pop into your email software (if you're familiar with it), and it makes a MASSIVE difference in getting your emails in the inbox instead of in promotions or worse, spam.

So don't just read this.

Copy/paste this from below, add it into your auto-responder, then let me know when you've done it.

I've been using this email for over 10 years, and it does a few key things:

  • It keeps my deliverability & open rates really high (I hover around 50% open rates consistently)
  • it helps keep me out of spam, and...
  • it shows that I care about my people right out of the gate.

Why do this right now?
This email serves 2 main purposes:
  1. Makes sure people got the freebie they opted in for

  2. Gets a back and forth reply between you, which tells the inboxes that they REALLY want to get your emails and actually engage with them. You basically get put on their "safe sender" list so you show up better, like a friend or coworker would.

The whole goal is to get them to reply, and then for your team to reply back.

Here's How to Set it Up:

When:

This email should be scheduled to go out 2 hours after they FIRST opt-in to your list.

Subject Line: Hey

Side note, this is one of my highest open rate subject lines, and I've sent over 2500 emails in the last 15 years so I've tried a ton of things.

Hey FIRSTNAME,

Just wanted to make sure you got NAME OF FREEBIE HERE that you signed up for a bit ago.

Could you please reply and say "got it" if it arrived, or let me know if you didn't?

Thanks!

Jamie

IMPORTANT Nuances:

Do NOT include ANY links (not your super signature, nothing) because we want this to look like something a friend would send AND because it helps make sure this one shows up in the inbox.

Don't tell them what to look for. Don't tell them how to get it again.

We WANT them to reply to get that information, and then you want to have your VA or customer service person reply with a "thanks!" or with "here's the link again" and deliver it that way.

✅ Reply to EVERY response you get. You can create a canned response so this is fast for your VA to do, but it's the secret to really getting excellent delivery.

✨Bonus Benefits✨

I've found that about 10% of people reply saying they never got what they signed up for, which is CRAZY high to me.

I think this happens for a variety of reasons, but if they never get the opt-in, you start on a bad foot with 10% of the list you just built.

This email makes sure they don't fall through the cracks, and shows that you really genuinely care.

The normally do get this email even if the first never arrived, because so many people reply to it, there are no links, and it looks like something a normal non-biz person would send.

It's a great safety net.

Also, many people sign up for something and then get distracted by something else... this brings them back to your world and reminds them to check it out, so you're top of mind again right away.

That's why I send it 2 hours later and not the next day.

🔥🔥My challenge to you🔥🔥

  1. Go do this RIGHT NOW. Don't wait. It takes no time at all. Remember to tell your team to watch for replies and create a process to make replying easy.

  2. Reply to any of my emails and tell me when you're done

  3. Please don't teach this as your own without crediting me - I'm sharing this and trusting that you'll be awesome and mention who you learned it from. Thanks!

With that, your next email is almost certainly waiting for you in your inbox by now with even more useful bits of wisdom in it! Go check it out!
